There are many interesting rides nearby. For those who prefer flatter terrain there are some along former railway tracks. The famous Tarka Trail takes you alongside a scenic estuary to superb river locations by pretty villages. For those wanting something more challenging the area comes into its own. Cycle Routes 56, 51 & 27 are all nearby and follow undulating routes. We can supply maps and information to suit different abilities. There are lots of fabulous rides even without using the cycle routes mentioned.

Roadies

If you need to train for the racing season or just toughen up for touring this is an incredible area to be in. We have routes to feast your eyes on and gladden your hearts. It is also tour of Britain country; one of the major climbs used last year is only 15 miles away. A week training by coast and moorland would get your heart racing.

Mountain Biking

We sit on the edge of Exmoor, certainly the best playground we have ever found! It has everything from simple bridleways to extremely challenging routes. We can offer planned routes for those that need them, short or long, and we have maps which grade routes through easy green to moderate blue, onto difficult red and then the severe black (rather like ski runs!). At quieter times of the year we offer recovery, provided you are within mobile signal range, and we can drop off and pick you up by arrangement if you want to cycle further afield.

In Summer the moor can be heavenly, rising to over 500m where it is still possible to see the sea. In winter it can be muddy, or hard with frost, and even dangerous. So you must respect it, and if you do, it will reward you. The whole area is such a special place with wild ponies, deer and goats and some very special bird life including birds of prey. At the end of the day you can happily hose down your bike at Blair Lodge and settle into the warm to enjoy Rachel's cooking to re-charge for the next day, or you may choose to visit one of several local pubs.

We know bike shops that are open 7 days a week should you need one, though we can help with simple repairs and have tools available.

We have bike storage facilities and as keen cyclists ourselves hope that you will feel very much at home.
